The Making of: Under Snow

I spent an entire week in February 2021 documenting the wild winter blast that swept across the American South. I documented Memphis, TN during the week. I took thousands of photographs and compiled my favorite 82 into my first photo book. From the beginning, I had a vision for this project to be a fundraiser for the Dorothy Day House of Memphis. 100% of the proceeds from the project are going to the House and I could not be more excited. Check out how I made the photo book below!

Creating Photo Pairs

The first process of creating the photo book began with hundreds of my favorite photos from the week all sprawled out over the floor with the intention of creating photo pairs.

Photo Book Layout

The next part was to layout the photo book from beginning to finish with my small prints.

InDesign Layout for Publication

Laying out the photo book in InDesign was the most magical part of the process. It was also the most frustrating! Watching the design come to life though was AMAZING.

Cover Design

I found designing the cover to be the most difficult part of the entire process. I was setting the mood for the photo book all in one page. Getting that right took a lot of time, patience, and help/opinions from others. I am thrilled with the final piece.

Printing Proofs

I got my first versions of my photo book in hand. Unbelievable experience to finally hold my work in my hand.
